About me

Joelle, a black woman wearing black-rimmed glasses and red lipstick is smiling at the camera.

My name is Joëlle, and dance has been a part of my life for many years. I started taking ballet classes when I was eight, and have danced on and off since then, taking classes in jazz, salsa, West African dance, bellydance, and whatever else I get a chance to try. While life and adult responsibilities have at times gotten in the way of my dance practice, my love dance has not only lasted, but it has also expanded. Since one of my other passions in life is learning as much as I can, I have enjoyed not only learning about other dance genres, but also reading up on dance history and traditions.

I started writing dance history posts for the Dance Accepts Everyone Facebook community, and once I reached my 50th one, a little over a year after I started them, I thought I would celebrate by starting this blog.

All in all, this page is really about me geeking out about dance and sharing my thoughts and what I learn along the way. I hope you’ll enjoy the journey with me.
